Six Months...

Big girl, you are already 6 months old!

You weigh 12 pounds, 14 ounces (5th percentile) and are 25.2 inches long (50th percentile).  Based on your weight you can still wear 3-month clothing, but your legs have started to outgrow your pants, and well, mama doesn't want you to wear high-water pants!  You are in a size 2 diaper and your feet have grown enough that we are starting to have serious fun with shoes. :-)

Your sister likes to have circle time with you and teach you songs.  Your current favorites are pat-a-cake and the ABCs.  Your love for her grows every day.

You are rolling all over the place and are such a mover in your bed!  We never find you in the same spot you started in when you wake up in the mornings.  You are a great night-sleeper still, only occasionally waking up to be rocked a little.  PT is helping you to become so much stronger!  You are soooo close to sitting and can do it by yourself for short little bursts.

Your two bottom teeth have broken through.  I miss your gummy smile, but those teeth are pretty cute.

We played with your hair a few days ago and you had your first set of pigtails!  You looked adorable!

You are starting to talk a little more, which makes me happy.  I've been a little concerned about your babbling, miss Lucy.  In the past few days though I've heard a /m/ and a /d/ and you've said "mama" twice.  It's so fun to hear you chatter with us!

You had your first feeding - squash!  You were less than thrilled!

You are such an easygoing baby.  You rarely get really angry, and you are easily soothed.  Your temperament is very sweet.  You are also quite the observer...looking around and taking things in is your favorite activity.

You don't seem to have a favorite book yet, but you are interested each time we read.  You are starting to imitate waving, and are still imitating the sign for milk.  I love watching you grow!

We are blessed to have you in our family, sweet Lucy!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
