Grandma Visit...

Lyla recently got to hang out with her Grandma Hoelscher for two weeks! Grandma Hoelscher lives in Illinois, but was very nice to fly down and help take care of Lyla due to some unforeseen events. Grandma hadn't seen her since just before Thanksgiving...Lyla has changed quite a bit since then! We made a trip down to Lubbock to our church (St. John Neumann). This sounds so bad, but I told Matt I was in need of some St. John Neumann Jesus. Ha! There's something about going to your 'home church' that fulfills you. Thanks SJN :-) We went to lunch after church and Lyla made this mama proud - she showed off her pickle eating skills! The girl loves pickles. And that makes me love her even more. hehe She also ate the table. That did not excite me. However, Grandma Hoelscher did have the camera ready to capture the moment!

Grandma taught Lyla about the wonders of chapstick. She was an eager pupil.

Mommy wanted to eat an apple. Lyla wanted Mommy to share her apple. Lyla won.

Hugs for the baby!

Lyla showed Grandma how she reads her books. Grandma tried to figure out how to make a kangaroo sound.

Shake your bon-bon, shake your bon-bon, shake your bon-bon! (For those of you who don't know the above reference, let me translate: wiggle your hiney. And please be sure to learn that reference - you'll enjoy it!) I'll try to post a video, but lets just say that Lyla is a dancer :-)

A little academic endeavor to show Grandma her skills. Who needs a calculator when you have an abacus?

Peek-a-boo!

"Dear God, let my drum performance be inspiring to all who listen. Amen."

"Dear God, let the picture-taking stop. Amen."

And when it was all said and done, Lyla searched for the meaning of life. I think Grandma hid it under the chair. :-)

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
