Christmas 2013...

Well, I've clearly been absent from the blog for awhile, but we've been busy.  House-hunting, moving, Christmas vacation, etc., etc. has kept us on the go.  But we're here and ready for 2014.  Not before a quick recap of Christmas though!

These pictures are not in order at all…much like my brain lately!

Do you see the exasperation on Matt's face?
We. Were. Done. With. Flying.

A great mom I am…this is the only picture I have of Lucy all dressed up on Christmas Eve.  And she's a hot mess!

Lyla wanted tator tots and lipstick from Santa.
Score for Santa!!!

Post-Christmas beach time.

Daddy, I'm cold!

Sand castles are best when made with dad.

40-degree weather didn't stop him from swimming in the ocean.

Lucy LOVED the beach.

Cheesin' it up with Aunt Rachey on our last night of vacay.

Only Lyla.

Way back before Christmas, Daddy and Lyla went on the Polar Express. (Lucy had a fever so she and I drank our hot chocolate at home.)

Moving was not fun.  The closing date got moved around 3 times, we lost the only weekend we had before flying out for a week to celebrate Christmas, etc.   But God is good and we are blessed to be in our new home.

Lucy has confirmed to everyone that she likes food.

Lyla had her first little pageant at school.  She looked so tiny on that stage!

Another mom failure: I never took the girls to see Santa.
But I saw him one afternoon when my mom and I went for an ice-cream treat!

Lucy was a better unpacker than packer while we moved.

Remember picture #1 of this post?  Yeah, the picture below was taken before the insanity broke loose.

Lucy's first flight!

Another blurry Christmas picture.  And the only one I got of Lyla in her Christmas dress.
{sigh}

She could have stayed on the beach all day.  Too bad it was too cold.

We all loved the ginormous connect 4 game.

"There's sand on my feet mom!"

This sums up how the flight home went.
Not. Good.

These two were about to give us a run for our money.  Little did I know the "give them a little benadryl so they'll sleep" theory would totally backfire.

Rotten rotten rotten.
But we still love 'em!

Christmas was a whirlwind and tons of fun seeing all of Matt's family.  But it sure was good to be home!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

How lovely are your colors :-)

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
