12 Months...

Lucy, you turned the big 1 on August 10!  We didn't have your one-year checkup at the doctor's office until just this week so I wanted to wait until I had your stats to write your post.  You had a great appointment, despite those darn shots.  Never fun for baby or mama.

You weigh 18 pounds (5th percentile) and are 28.8 inches long (50th percentile).  Your hair accounts for a lot of that!  Haha, kidding...but really, your hair is insane.  I thought we'd be used to it by now, but it still shocks me sometimes that I'm using hair product or blow-drying my baby's hair!  I can't imagine you without hair, although I'm pretty sure you would look more like Lyla.

You are signing more often, but still somewhat inconsistently for some signs.  You are "talking" more and telling us your thoughts.  I love watching you nod or shake your head...so serious most of the time!  You love playing peek-a-boo, puzzles, pushing your walking toy, playing with kitchen supplies, being chased or chasing, singing If You're Happy and You Know It, and banging/playing with balls.  You are not a fan of getting your hair done or strawberries.

You are wearing more 9-12 month outfits, but your feet are still tiny.  You maybe wear a size 1 in most shoes.  You are potty trained!  (Oh wait, just kidding.)  You are starting to fit in size 3 diapers and will do anything to avoid a diaper change.

You are standing all the time and doing so with more ease and speed.  You can walk while pushing items, but haven't quite yet taken a solitary step.  That will happen soon though, very soon!

One year down, many more to go!  We love you Lucy Claire!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
