Eleven Months...

Eleven months already?  Yikes!

Lucy, you have become such a little ray of sunshine with a sneaky personality.  You're quiet most of the time, but then bam!  You hit us with your opinion!  I love it.  You have expressed a few more opinions about things lately (being put down on the floor, having your diaper changed, being put down on the floor...) but you always 'recover' quickly from your unhappy moments and go back to being a sweet little thing.

You weigh 17 pounds now!  You've officially graduated to 6-9 month clothing, and I can occasionally get you in 12-month clothing if it's a loose dress or top.  Forget it if it's bottoms though...you have nothing to hold it up!  You're in a size 2 diaper but you could graduate soon.

You've been playing more intentionally lately and especially love spoons, Little People Princesses, and balls.  In addition, you love anything in your sister is playing with and will go forth with determination to get it from her!  You're also starting to 'stand up' to her a little more and love crawling all over her.

Speaking of crawling, you are a mover and groover!  You have been working hard in therapy and are cruising right and left and around corners.  You have also started trying to go from a squat to a stand but that is still harder.  Mommy and Daddy are SO proud of how much progress you've made and how much you've caught up to be at an age-appropriate level.  I think you might be like that most of your life...show us up just when we start to be concerned. :-)

You are eating and sleeping well, and are a mama's girl through and through.  Mommy's tonsillectomy fell right on your 11-month birthday and she feels like she's missed a lot of this month, having been in a pain-medication-induced fog, but we'll make up for lost time!

We love you Lucy Claire!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
