Two Months...

Lucy, you are two months old!
This pose below just shouts a big "yes!" doesn't it?!

At your two-month doctor appointment you weighed 8 pounds (3rd percentile) and were 22 and 1/2 inches long (75th percentile).  You are unfortunately a little too skinny...it appears that you have a small appetite and that mommy makes skim milk.  So, we're supplementing you for a few days to try to bulk you up and crossing our fingers that it works!

You've had a good month Luc.  You started smiling at 5 weeks and haven't stopped since.  It's so rewarding to see you taking things in and getting excited in your own way.

With the exception of a few nights here and there, you are still sleeping through the night.  Bless you child, bless you.

You are cooing more and talking back and forth with us.  This is one of my favorite things to do with you. :-)

As seen below, you are discovering your hands and feet.  I remember when your sister noticed her hands for the first time - it was so funny to watch her facial expression!  You are the same way, excited and quizzical of your little body parts.

You are so close to rolling it's ridiculous.  You roll to your side but stop before a full back-to-tummy roll, and you get your head and legs in full position for a tummy-to-back roll, but then let go and get mad.  Your sister rolled early and I've been putting some pressure on you to perform!  Haha, that's okay though, as long as you keep sleeping you can roll in your own time.

You are very observant and love watching the world around you.  You love when your sister shows you books and babies, but get upset when she gets too close to your face.  You like being on your tummy, cuddling, and listening to mommy sing.  You also have a strong preference for bluegrass/folksy type music and do not tolerate talk radio at all (yes, mommy is one of those people who frequently listens to talk radio).

You are starting to grasp your toys more often and hold onto them.  Just last night you had a great grip on your bottle.  You have a sweet personality and are fairly easygoing...until you get the hiccups, then it's game over.  I can't say I blame you though!

Mommy is very sad that maternity leave is almost over and can't imagine leaving you, but we'll get through it.  We all love you Lucy Claire!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
