One Month...

Lucy, you are already one month old!

You have been such a joy to our family.  Your big sister loves you immensely.  It makes my heart happy to see the two of you together.  One of her favorite things to do with you is to say, "Hey Lucy!" while she gets close to you and pats or kisses your head.  She also likes to label all your body parts.  (Yes, she has poked you a little too vigorously at times, but you are resilient!)

You are a good baby and are easy-going (much needed in our type-a family).  I hate to write this out of fear that I might jinx myself, but you've been sleeping through the night for the past few days.  Yay for mommy!  I remember your sister eventually establishing her own schedule and patterns and you've done the same, just a little earlier than I expected.  (Again, I am a-okay with that!)

You are still fitting well in newborn clothes and newborn size diapers.  You weigh 7 pounds, 4 ounces and you've grown over an inch and a half since you were born.  (That was at your 2-week appointment...you are even longer now.)  You are doing well with eating and haven't shown an allergy signs like your sister as of yet.  We are praying it stays that way!

We are so glad you are here!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
