The Big 2!

Lyla turned the big 2 on May 11...clearly keeping up with her has me behind on the blog again!  (What will I do when we have two babies to keep up with?)  We had some house issues (i.e., plumbing) that required us to stay at a hotel that night.  Not an expected turn of events for a birthday, but fun for daddy and Lyla since they got to cuddle together that night.  (As mom happily cuddled with pillows in her own bed!)

Lyla woke up to a room full of balloons.  She was SO excited!

Chocolate milk mustache on Lyla's face while we waited for our apple cinnamon pancakes...yum!

Someone disappeared for awhile and when we found her all she said was, "I'm pretty.  I have pretty nails."  No point in being mad about that on her birthday.  (And I had no clue she could reach into the drawer that holds her polish OR that she could open it by herself.)

She danced up a storm at dinner that night...

...and even rode the saddle for her birthday!

The next morning was her birthday party.  She was completely uninterested in waiting for her guests before digging into her lollipop.

Friends + painting = fun!
(I'll have a full post with party pics up soon.)

We opened presents at home later that afternoon.  Miss Thing had a great time and played with everything her friends so generously gave to her.

Hooray for 2!

She ended the night with a glow-stick party in the bathtub.

Lyla received her birthday blessing at mass the following morning.

It was a crazy weekend, but one we'll definitely remember.  We love our girl so much and we are looking forward to the next year with her!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
