Fifteen Months...

It is crazy to me that Lyla is 15 months old!  Wasn't she just 15 days?  (Although I'll admit, I'm thankful for the sleep I get at the current age versus that at 15 days!)

- Lyla weighs 20.5 pounds according to the scale at home, but we'll see what the doctor's scale says in a couple of weeks.  She's feeling rather large!

- Lyla's new favorite word: no.  Yes folks, we've entered that stage.  She doesn't usually say it in a defiant way, which is nice for us, but rather to express a strong opinion or when she's being playful.  Example: I say "Lyla, it's time for bed."  Her response: cling to mom for dear life while saying "NoNoNoNoNoNoNo."

- She went on her first airplane ride in July!  More on that in a future post.

- She has started "jumping" - it is so funny!  If we say "Lyla, jump!" she sticks her little hiney out while she squats.  We can get a pretty good smile and laugh out of her that way.

- Lyla has begun to clean up after bathtime.  She likes putting all her toys back in the basket and is very thorough.  No duck must be left unattended!  She also likes wiping her tray after she eats.  In addition, she's now in charge of all laundry.  HA!  Okay, not yet.  That comes when she's 2. (Child labor friends. You gotta start 'em young.)

- She's saying and signing so much more.  Some of the things she signs/says: mom, dad, cat, dog, eat, milk, agua, please (my favorite...it's pretty sweet), thank you, sorry, hat, shoes, baby, ball, book, banana, more, wash, bath, phone, cracker, diaper, orange, brush teeth, yes, up, down, all done, on, off, ears, glasses...I'm sure I'm forgetting others.  I've been meaning to keep an actual list for awhile because I know I won't remember.  Sorry you were just exposed to it :-)

- Lyla loves chasing the dogs.  That's a new, not-so-fun, challenge to deal with.

- Knocking on doors is another new favorite!  She can knock pretty fiercely, too.  Example: When I'm in the bathroom and she wants in :-)

- She loves "cooking" when we are in the kitchen.  She stirs, pours, feeds her babies, etc.  She's clearly taking on my domestic-goddess skills.  (Er, uh, something like that...)

- Three new teeth are breaking through.  Enough said.

Another good month!!!

Day 5: The Realities...

July 20, 2014 Afternoon:  Well, we moved down the hall to a different ICU room.  Our new nurse is like a drill sergeant grandma…sweet but serious. Warning: This is about to get real.  If you are offended by foul language, you might skip this post.  If you don't like the ugly truth, you might skip this post. So, here's the deal.  I've been thinking a lot today about reality.  Living in the moment.  Not worrying about tomorrow and next week and next month.  But that's hard for me.  I'm a planner and I have to plan ahead some because I'm here and the girls are being shuffled around and everyone is being so incredibly kind and offering help.  It all overwhelms me and I get to a place of feeling like "Screw this, I can't do it.  This is shitty.  There's just no other way to say it."  And then I get a text or a call or a hug that brings me back to a different reality; one in which hundreds of people are rooting us on in th...

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Friday Night Lights - A Poem...

The Friday night lights were back in full swing. Lyla arrived at the game asleep in her sling. All was well, the lights were bright. Little did we know that the end was in sight. The speaker came on and proclaimed domination. And that, dear friends, led to overstimulation. So we packed up our baby and checked on the time. The game started at seven-thirty, We left at seven-thirty-nine. The end.
